Looking back at 2011 - Favorite Images

As we wrap up 2011 and enter 2012, I decided to look back at images I made in the last 365 days and pick my very favorites.

As I looked through the collection, I made over 30,000 exposures. However, it was a busy year in many other areas of my life, as we welcomed a new child into our family, and as I tried to focus on my health and on professional side of my life. In other words, I do wish I made more images. Good thing there's always next year, right?

In terms of my direction last year, I gravitated heavily towards black and white images. I included few color images in the end - but mostly because these are family photographs. I can't exclude them even if they mean more to me than they mean to others. The pictures I take of my family have as much meaning as anything else I capture with my camera.

Without further adieu, here they my favorite images from 2011. As you take a look through these, I'd love to hear which are your favorite.

I love how great you see in black and white, Ivan. I really dig the profile of SF.

Thank you Ken. I still live the color but B&W is where I'm headed with all my work it seems. Hope you're well!

Fantastic selection and I fully understand your stance towards family photos; I'm of the same opinion. Anyway, my personal favorite is A to B. It has/does everything a photo can do for me: it tells a story, it has stunning lines/patterns/depth and a great contrast.

My favorite is Electrozavodskaya Station - a lovely combination of your talent and some grand Soviet architecture. 2nd favorite - April Storm at Big Sur. I just love the waves.

Thanks Jim. Wouldn't put these together if not for your project.

Thanks Dellory. Shooting Moscow Metro was probably the funnest project of them all for me. So close to my heart. Need to go back and finish the set.

Thanks Stefan. Love that picture too. Also a reminder of the homeland.

I'm impressed with your blog and photographs. My father, pioneer landscape photographer Philip Hyde, student and teaching associate of Ansel Adams, would have enjoyed your strong clean lines and artistic compositions. I am indeed lucky to still be around, representing Dad's work in the photo blogosphere and seeing a variety of great photography such as yours. My favorites are the Kiev Temple, the Station, A to B and the San Francisco Summer.
